Introduction

The Competence Center for Integrated Systems for Control and Information (ISIS) is committed to meet industrial and scientific needs within the general area of integrated systems for control, supervision and information. The Center has its scientific basis in automatic control, control technology, systems modeling, computer science, engineering data bases and real time systems.

The over all goal of this Center is to provide competence that is useful for the design of complex industrial systems related to control and supervision. ``Competence'' includes people, results and methodologies, and software.

During the first five years ISIS will have activities in the following five areas:

  1. Databases for control, modeling and simulation

  2. Diagnosis, supervision and safety

  3. Techniques and technologies for developing integrated control and information systems

  4. Methods for synthesis of control and supervision functions

  5. Signal processing in integrated control and information systems

The five areas support each other and partly overlap, as indicated in Figure 1.

Within each of these areas of activity, a more narrow project will be defined for the first two years. The work plans for these project areas are described in the document ``Work Plan for the First Two Years''.
