Process Control

Spring 2011

General information

This is a course aiming at giving the participants a general background in process control, but with particular emphasis on methods for design of PID controllers. The course comprises 8 lectures including one guest lecture by Dr. Krister Forsman, Senior Control Expert, Perstorp AB. Lectures are given two in a day with 2-3 weeks interval, with the first two lectures on Friday 15 April. The main course book will be "Advanced PID Control" by Karl Johan Åström and Tore Hägglund (ISA, 2005), with "Reglerteknik för processindustrin" by Krister Forsman (Studentlitteratur, 2006) as side reading. As background knowledge the course really only assumes the participants to have a major in undergraduate automatic control (preferably including a course on modelling and identification). The examination will be in the form of 3 sets of take home (Matlab) exercises after the 4th, 6th and 8th lecture. Send an email to the course organizer below if you are from outside the control department and interested in participating.
